SAT I / SAT II / ACT / PSAT Test Preparation: Services offered include standardized preparation for the new SAT I, the new ACT, the SAT II's, and PSAT. Included are practice tests, review of all math/verbal/writing skills (including the new essay requirement), development of positive thinking, guessing and timing techniques, and avoidance of common errors. Reservations for the PSAT are being accepted at this time. Appointment slots for the SAT, ACT, and SAT II are limited at this time. An average of 12 weekly 1½ hour sessions are provided.
| Catholic High
School Placement Test (HSPT) Preparation: I
provide Entrance Exam tutoring for Brophy Prep, Xavier,
St. Mary's, Notre Dame, and Bourgade. Included are review
of practice exams, mid- and post-session evaluative
exams, high focus on math and grammar skills, and anxiety
reduction and pacing skills. I also cover the admission
interview and essay process, providing valuable tips for
success. 10-12 1½ hour sessions are provided from
mid-October through mid-January. Special Note: The Brophy Prep Entrance Exam now includes a 40-question general science section. It appears to be used only for tracking of qualified students into SHEP (Science Honors Enrichment Program), their summer science program for incoming freshmen. It can thus be considered optional for those not interested in SHEP, but all entrance candidates will take this test. Although I cannot personally tutor you on this topic, and am still gathering information about the test scope and depth, I can probably connect you with a science tutor that would be of some assistance. Feel free to contact me, and I'll bring you up to date on what I've learned about this. |
Secondary Scholastic Aptitude Test (SSAT) Preparation: I can help you prepare for the SSAT, now being required by some prestigious local private and boarding schools on the east coast.
College Math Placement Test Preparation: For higher placement in your first year of college, I offer assistance with the ASU, U of A, and NAU mathematics placement tests. Included are a review of relevant high school math, as well as practice placement tests. The number of sessions varies based on the test. This is a summer program only.
College Admissions Counseling: Whether you need general guidance, or specific help with the maze of paperwork required for admissions and financial aid, I can provide the information you seek. Counseling sessions last 1½ hours and can be scheduled as needed.
AIMS Mathematics Tutoring: The Arizona Instrument to Measure Standards (AIMS) conatins a mathematics section many find challenging. I can provide tutoring that will improve your performance on this graduation-critical evaluation.
General Mathematics Tutoring: I can assist in Algebra 1-4, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, College Algebra, and Finite Math. Included are instruction and practice tests geared to your specific requirements. Tutoring sessions last 1½ hours and can be scheduled as needed.
Session Schedule: Students work in a small group format (4-5 per group) and meet weekly for a 1½ hour session over a period of 10-12 weeks. Class times for tutoring are from: 3:30 - 9:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 12:45 - 6.00 p.m on Friday through Sunday.
Fees: Payment for four (4) sessions at a time is the preferred route for most people. At $160 (which includes a $10 discount), this is less costly than paying $42.50 for individual sessions. Typically, students' needs can be met with a maximum of 12 sessions. Sessions are 1½ hours long, once weekly, as described above. A sliding fee scale is available when more than one student from the same family being tutored at the same time, or for needy students who receive financial aid from their school, or have demonstrated need within their family.
Cancellations: If you must cancel an appointment, please provide 24 hours notice to avoid a cancellation fee.
Note: Students attending our sessions will be expected to purchase a necessary resource book, and will be given handouts and homework assignments. Your success in our program will be proportional to your degree of participation.
